To find out if you’re eligible for NHS orthodontic treatment you’ll need to first visit your general dentist for an initial assessment. If they determine a possible need for treatment, they will then refer you to us for a free NHS consultation. During this free consultation, your teeth will be assessed using a set of measurements called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN).
Some of the dental problems that typically qualify for NHS treatment include:
Protrusion of the teeth more than 6mm
Severe crowding of the teeth
Abnormal bites that cause problems with eating and drinking
Borderline cases are also given an aesthetic score to consider the appearance of the teeth.
If you are not suitable for NHS care we can provide self-funded private treatment. NHS treatment is carried out by our experienced team of specialist orthodontists and orthodontic therapists. As there are limited places, you may have to join a waiting list.
Private orthodontic care offers a number benefits over NHS treatment, such as more flexible appointment times, no waiting list and a choice of discreet braces. You can contact us directly to arrange a private orthodontic consultation – you don’t need to be referred to us by your dentist.
